​Lake Anna encompasses 17 square miles with over 200 miles of shoreline and is one of the largest manmade freshwater lakes in the heart of central Virginia. Enjoy recreational activities, such as swimming, boating, kayaking, paddle boating, camping, hiking, flyboarding, wakesurfing, kneeboarding, waterskiing and tubing on the fully recreational lake. Lake Anna is sourced from the Anna River and Pamunkey River with a maximum depth of 80 feet. When the land was cleared in 1972 to build the lake, it was projected to take 3 years to fill the lake. With the heavy rains that arrived with a visit from Hurricane Agnes in June later that same year, the lake was filled in only 18 months.

Nestled within Louisa County, Lake Anna is close to vineyards, shopping, restaurants, golf, historic sites, theme parks, and hiking trails.

Parts of Lake Anna are known for their gold mining history. Between 1830 and 1849, Virginia was the third leading gold producing state in the nation. Lake Anna is home to the last two historical mines left in Virginia—Goodwin Mine and Allah Cooper Mine. The latter mine predates the Civil War and gave the nearby town of Mineral its name.

Average rainfall is 44” with average temps of 44.9º F in the winter and 68.7º F in the summer. The water purity is excellent with temperatures inviting swimming from May through September.

Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, and Richmond are within an hour’s drive from Lake Anna and offer shopping malls and specialty shops, regional airports, full-service hospitals, restaurants, golf, professional services, entertainment and historic monuments. Northern Virginia/DC is a short 1.5 hour drive. It’s no wonder Lake Anna’s been the destination spot for folks throughout Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina.​​​​​​​
